Strategic Moves & Big Energy: What Executive Networking Reminded Me About Owning Your Power

It’s summer, it’s hot, and I just wrapped one of my favorite masterclasses yet: Advanced Networking Strategies: From Hidden Roles to Strategic Moves. It was packed with brilliant Director+ leaders navigating change—and they brought the energy.

But here's the thing: What started as a workshop about job strategy quickly became something much deeper. It turned into a conversation about identity, alignment, and what it really means to bring your Big Energy into the room—even when you're in transition.

Here are four lessons that absolutely translate from career strategy to life strategy, plus a reflection exercise you can try after each one:

1. Strategic Moves Require Strategic Energy

At the executive level, you’re not filling out online forms and crossing your fingers. You’re building momentum by showing up in the right rooms, with the right people, saying the right things.

This isn’t about doing more. It’s about doing what matters, with energy that’s focused, clean, and intentional. Big Energy isn’t scattered—it’s directed like a beam.

Ignite the SPARK:

  • Take a quick energy audit. Where is your energy going right now in your job search or day-to-day life?

  • Draw two columns labeled “Drainers” and “Drivers.”

  • What’s lighting you up—and what’s burning you out?

2. Reframing Isn’t Just for Resumes

We talked a lot about reframing your leadership story. This is the same work we all need to do when we’re stepping into a new season of life and reimagining both what we have to offer and what we want to be doing.

You’re not out of work. You’re in transition. You’re not too old or experienced. You’re seasoned and powerful. What you believe about your story shapes how others receive it.

Ignite the SPARK:

  • Write down your current leadership “headline” using this prompt:

    • I help [WHO] achieve [WHAT] by bringing [HOW].

  • Then say it out loud. Does it land? Does it feel true? If not, tweak it until it does.

  • Test is with others for feedback: what felt strong? Authentic? Memorable? Boring?

3. Your Ecosystem Is Everything

Whether you're making a career pivot, launching a new idea, or just ready to shake up your routine, the truth is this: transformation doesn’t happen in isolation. Growth lives in new ecosystems—circles of people and energy that challenge you, stretch you, and invite you to think bigger.

If you’re only surrounding yourself with the same familiar voices, you’re probably recycling the same old strategies. New results require new relationships.

And when you show up in these spaces not as someone looking for validation, but as someone with a perspective and value to offer—that’s when things shift. Big Energy doesn’t wait for permission. It plugs into places where it can expand.

Ignite the SPARK:

  • Identify one ecosystem you're curious about—maybe it's a creative collective, a leadership circle, a book club, a non-profit, an entrepreneurial community, or a personal growth space that feels a little intimidating (in the best way).

  • Then write a bold, clear message introducing yourself, stating why you're drawn to that circle and what you bring to the table. No apologies. No shrinking.

  • You don’t even have to send it—just practice claiming your space.

4. You’re Not Too Late—You’re Right on Time

This message resonated hard: so many of us—especially those with years of experience—start to question whether we’ve missed our moment. Whether it’s a new career path, a creative reinvention, or a personal shift we’ve been dreaming about, it’s easy to feel like we’re arriving too late to the party.

But to be honest with you, transformation doesn’t run on a clock. Wisdom, depth, and clarity don’t expire. Big Energy isn’t just for the beginning of things, it happens along the journey and is what powers the next chapter.

Your lived experience is your leverage. The way you see patterns, navigate change, and move through the world with substance is your coveted uniqueness and edge. And it’s never been more needed.

Don’t believe me?

Julia Child didn’t publish her first cookbook until she was 50, and it changed the way America cooks. Colonel Sanders franchised KFC at 62. These weren’t accidents. They were the result of showing up, over and over, with purpose, grit, and evolved energy.

Ignite the SPARK: Journal on this prompt:

  • What do I know now—about myself, about life, about what matters—that I didn’t know 10 years ago?

  • And how does that make me powerful today?

  • No edits, and no inner critic allowed. Just let it flow.

  • You might just write your own permission slip to begin again, bolder.

It reflects how you see yourself, what you believe you deserve, and how boldly you’re willing to show up.

You don’t need to be louder to get what you want. You just need to be clearer, truer, and more you.

And when you do that, your Big Energy walks in the room before you do.

I am rooting for you!
